acceleration in the metaverse
Some interesting metaverse news
Reuters has an article on Central Grid and OpenSim: “The OpenSim project is an independent attempt to create virtual worlds servers that work with the existing Second Life viewer… OpenSim worlds like Central Grid work by allowing its users to host regions on their own computers, with Central Grid Inc providing the centralized inventory server and grid architecture that allows avatars to seamlessly walk from one region to another”.
The OpenSim platform is one of the three next generation metaverse platforms selected by the the Immersive Education Initiative, an international collaboration of universities, colleges, research institutes, consortia companies, and foundations that are working together to define and develop open standards, best practices, platforms, and communities of support for virtual reality and game-based learning and training systems. The other two systems selected are Open Croquet and Sun’s Java-based Wonderland and Darkstar platform.
